PHOTODEGRADATION OF COMPOSITE MATERIALS POLYLACTIDE – NATURAL RUBBER

Abstract

Currently, polylactide (PLA) and PLA composites are of growing interest as new promising materials for the industry and agriculture using. The main process that occurs during the PLA photodegradation is the accidental splitting of the chain by the Norrish II mechanism. Photodegradation causes changes in mechanical properties, thermophysical characteristics. The melting point of PLA after exposure to UV radiation (λ = 254 nm) for 50 hours decreases by 5 °C, and the degree of crystallinity decreases by 3–4 %. The disintegration of the PLA/NR material is confirmed by IR spectroscopy.
